Organization Description:

Breakthrough is an international human rights organization that uses media and popular culture to build a culture of human rights. We produce multimedia tools including video games, online videos, animations and interactive websites to address pressing human rights issues with a focus on immigration and racial justice.

Position:  Breakthrough Writing and Web 2.0 Intern –

Breakthrough seeks a Writing and Web 2.0 intern to contribute towards online writing and distribution of content. This is a great opportunity for an individual who has a strong interest in writing well researched and informative blog posts for Breakthrough’s various blogs by culling information from online news sources and listservs and finding and sourcing stories. Interest in human rights, immigration and race issues, and new media is a plus. There is an additional opportunity in learning about video production as responsibilities may include transcribing video and participating in video shoots if candidate is interested.

Duties:

• Write for Breakthrough’s b-listed blog on human rights and pop culture

• Write well researched and informative blog posts for Breakthrough’s Restore Fairness blog on fair immigration and racial justice

http://www.restorefairness.org

• Write content for Breakthrough’s website at www.breakthrough.tv
• Promote all blog posts through cross posting, sending to other bloggers, and highlighting on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Myspace;
• Online research as needed.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following skills: Proficient and strong interest in researching and writing for the web, an interest in journalism, familiar with social networking sites, organized and creative. In addition, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the capability to multi-task and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a small office are essential. Photoshop, Graphic Design, Video Production or Video Editing skills a plus.
